Located in the heart of South America, the Amazon is the world’s largest rainforest. Home to many unique species, the Amazon Rainforest is truly one of nature’s wonders. The Amazon is also really fragile, so National Parks were created to protect it from deforestation, illegal logging, and unsustainable hunting. Today over 44% of the Amazon Jungle is protected. Yasuni National Park, Ecuador

One of the most biologically diverse areas in the world is Yasuni National Park. Located in Ecuador. this park has broken world records with a diverse selection of species across mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and plants. Yasuni is also part of an extensive national park system in Ecuador. The park has  almost 2.5 million acres of untouched wilderness from rainforest to marsh lands. Jau National Park, Brazil

Jau National Park is largest national forest reserve in South America and part of a World Heritage Site. This park is home to Jaguars, Amazonian Manatees and Amazon river dolphins and further 120 mammals, 470 birds, 15 reptiles and 320 fish species. The park is also home to okampha tribe. This is an isolated tribe, meaning that they never show themselves to tourists or even other native groups that live there.

Manu National Park, Peru

One of the most well-known national parks in Peru, is Manu National Park. The park is the largest protected area of land in the country, and one of the largest in South America. It’s said that the area has 10% of all the bird species in the world. The park is divided into four areas: the restricted zone (virgin forests and native communities),  the reserved zone (for recreation and research), the recuperation zone (for the recovery of some areas) and the cultural zone (for human settlement). Scientific research is also done at the park, that’s why there are many research centers around this park.

Madidi National Park, Bolivia

Madidi National park is located on the upper Amazon river basin of Bolivia. The park features snow-capped mountains, cloud forests and tropical jungle. This park is  home to many unique wildlife and plantlife, including Titi monkey, which is a endemic specie. Also, the park is home to six different tribes, most of them still practice their ancient traditions.
